GUIDE FOR PARENTS

OUR videos can be used at home to enrich children’s relationship with God

The information below will help you use the videos at home and lead their children to Jesus. If you would like further help or advice, please contact us and we will be delighted to help.

The Mark 10 Mission at home

The Mark 10 Mission is inspired by the words of Jesus in Mark 10:14

“Let the little children come to me, do not stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to them.”

We have a great heart for parents and grandparents who long to share their faith and love of Jesus with their children and grandchildren.

Children have deep religious potential and a natural openness to faith. Our prayer is that when children watch The Mark 10 Mission each week, they grow in a love for the Gospels and the Liturgy. Most importantly, we want to nurture their personal relationship with Jesus, help them to explore prayer and to experience his love for them.

What will you see?

  • The Sunday Gospel. We use the same translation (ESV-CE) as used at Holy Mass. (Occasionally we switch to a solemnity such as the Ascension or All Saints, even if they do not fall on a Sunday.)

  • Liturgical colours, either worn by the priest or on our prayer table.

  • Symbols leading children to contemplate the transcendent . In the Little Liturgies, the symbols are often combined with actions. We observe this approach to be particularly powerful, especially with the youngest children.

  • Periods of guided silence, allowing children to listen to the voice of God themselves and speak with him in their hearts.

  • ‘Questions of wonder.’ We ask open questions to help children contemplate the Gospel passage and the mysteries of God.

  • A hymn or worship song recorded and produced by us and linked to the theme and Liturgical season.

  • A mission. Children should be changed and live differently after encountering God. We send them out with a mission to live out their faith.

When to Use At Home

The Little Liturgies are created for 4-7 year olds and The Mark 10 Mission for 7-12 year olds. Each video shares the Sunday Gospel, but there is no right or wrong time to watch. It could be on a Sunday or in the days before or after.

How to Use At Home

The most exciting time using The Mark 10 Mission with your family may well come after the children have watched the videos. We encourage you to ask the children questions such as:

  • What did you hear in the Gospel?

  • What did you like about the Gospel?

  • What did Jesus show you?

On our Mission Files and Instagram you will also find ‘Wonder Questions.’ These questions are designed for children and adults to wonder together. This is a brilliant way for children to share in their experience of faith with their families. We love the thought of children realising that God speaks to their parents and grandparents too, that he knows them and that everyone in their family is loved by God.

Songs at home

The worship songs are chosen each week to match the Gospel passage. They are an invitation to continue children’s prayer and encounter with God. However, we also know that children love to listen to and sing along with the worship songs for enjoyment at home. Our collection of worship songs is available for children to listen to any time. The songs share scripture and deep truths about the love of God. If children want to sing and play the songs at home and enjoy them with their families, we think that is simply wonderful!
